Early Spay and Neutering Of Labradoodles

We participate in Early Spay and Neutering (ESN) as advised by the AVMA.  Studies have shown that anesthetizing 6-7 week old puppies is safe and uneventful.  In addition, spays are reported to be easier and faster with shorter recovery periods and with less pain.  We drive a hour and half away so that our pups will treated by a vet that utilizes human grade anesthesia, warming beds for recovery, take home pain medications and prophylactic antibiotics!  When they arrive back home on the same day, they have ravenous appetites and are ready to play.  But we insist they take it easy and that they wear the E-collar for a full weak ensuring that stitches will not be tampered with.  They never miss a step and are ready to play like nothing every happened 24 hours later.  Unfortunately they never do enjoy the collar, but that is OK because everyone wears one, so no one gets called, “Martini Head”!
